Resistance, on the other hand, is a property of a material or a component that opposes the flow of electric current. It is a measure of how difficult it is for electrons to move through a conductor. Resistance is quantified by the resistance value mentioned earlier, measured in ohms. Different materials have different inherent resistances, and resistance can also be adjusted by using resistors in a circuit.


To further illustrate the difference, imagine an electrical circuit as a path for water flow. The resistor can be compared to a valve or a narrow section of pipe inserted in the path, which restricts the water flow. The resistance, in this analogy, represents the inherent property of the material through which the water flows, such as the pipe material itself. Some materials may allow water to flow easily, offering low resistance, while others may impede the flow, providing high resistance.


When an electric current passes through a resistor, the resistance causes a voltage drop across it. This means that the electrical energy is converted into heat as it encounters resistance. This characteristic is often utilized in various applications, such as in heating elements, where electrical energy is converted into heat for cooking or warming purposes.
