 Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, a prominent figure in Indian history, was born on October 15, 1931, in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, India. He hailed from a humble background and faced various challenges during his childhood. Despite the financial constraints, Kalam was a diligent student with a keen interest in science and mathematics.

He graduated from St. Joseph's College, Tiruchirappalli, with a degree in physics, and later completed his aerospace engineering from the Madras Institute of Technology. Dr. Kalam then embarked on a remarkable career as a scientist and engineer, specializing in missile technology and space research.


One of the defining moments of Kalam's career came when he joined the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) in 1958. He played a crucial role in the development of India's first indigenous Satellite Launch Vehicle (SLV-III) and the Agni and Prithvi missiles.

Dr. Kalam's exceptional leadership skills and scientific acumen led him to serve as the Chief Scientific Adviser to the Prime Minister of India and the Secretary of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). During his tenure, he spearheaded several critical projects, including the Pokhran-II nuclear tests in 1998.


In 2002, Dr. Kalam was elected as the 11th President of India, a role he served with distinction until 2007. As President, he focused on inspiring the youth and promoting education, often interacting with students to ignite their passion for learning and innovation.


Even after his presidential term, Dr. Kalam remained a tireless advocate for science, technology, and education. He continued to inspire millions through his speeches, writings, and personal interactions, emphasizing the importance of dreaming big and working hard to achieve one's goals.


Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam passed away on July 27, 2015, while delivering a lecture at the Indian Institute of Management Shillong. Despite his physical absence, his legacy continues to inspire generations of Indians and people worldwide to strive for excellence, uphold integrity, and contribute to the betterment of society.
